BIO: My name is Nie Zixuan, and I am currently studying for a Master’s degree in Fashion Design at the University of Southampton in the UK, after completing my undergraduate studies in China. My main interest lies in exploring the relationship between silhouette, structure, and the human body. I enjoy working with form and construction, using experimentation to push the boundaries of how clothing can shape identity and movement.

What excites me about fashion is its unique role as both a personal expression and a cultural language. I am particularly drawn to research-driven design that connects creativity with social, technological, and conceptual themes. This process allows me not only to design garments but also to question how fashion reflects and influences human experience.

Looking ahead, my career aspiration is to pursue doctoral research in fashion design, focusing on the deeper theoretical and structural aspects of clothing. Ultimately, I hope to contribute to both academia and the design industry, and to return to China as a university lecturer. I believe advanced research will equip me to guide the next generation of designers while continuing to develop my own creative vision.

Upper City / Lower City is a menswear collection by Zixuan Nie that explores the tension between technological advancement and natural evolution in a speculative future society. The “Upper City” embodies precision, structure, and functional aesthetics, expressed through geometric patchwork, contrasting fabric sheens, and architectural tailoring. The “Lower City” draws from biological forms and animal traits—such as frilled-neck lizards and centaur-like limbs—using mixed materials and sculptural interventions to evoke mutation and primal energy.

Reoriented sleeves, angular trouser details, and experimental silhouettes transform garments into narrative forms, reflecting social hierarchy, evolutionary divergence, and the interplay of technology and nature.

KATIE WALKER

BIO: My Final Major Project extends from my previous ‘Aestival Reflections’ journey and further explores natures biophilia through the transient qualities of light, colour, and material. Using knit structure to reflect architecture and sheen like yarns to communicate shifting light into sensory knitted surfaces. By manipulating yarn, colour, and knitted structure my work becomes a method of rendering the transient and sensorial qualities of light within our interior spaces.

Curating a subtle and serene connection to nature becomes a part of immersing myself within my practice. Repetition in pattern becomes meditative and choice of colour is always shifting, reflecting natures ephemeral calming qualities. My work entertains a more interpretive approach, where light, material, and making processes collectively blend to curate a space that encourages contemplation, sensory awareness, and an embodied connection to nature through lighting.

INFORMATION: FILTERING SPACE. This knitted collection explores nature’s biophilia through the transient interplay of light, colour, and material. Using knitted structure as a reflection of architectural form, alongside lustrous yarns that capture and refract shifting light, the work transforms sensory experiences into tactile surfaces. Through the manipulation of yarn, colour, and knit construction, I investigate how light can be rendered within interior spaces and bespoke fashion creating pieces that evoke stillness, contemplation, and an embodied connection to nature. A subtle and serene relationship with the natural world remains central to my practice. Repetition within pattern becomes meditative, while colour continuously shifts to mirror nature’s ephemeral and calming qualities. Structured surfaces echo the cyclical patterns found in nature, while the fluid interaction of light across the yarn disrupts this order, creating a balance between stability and transient movement. A reflection of the harmony between repetition and variation within the natural world.

BIO: As a passionate textile design student at the Winchester School of Art, I specialise in print design with a focus on digital techniques. 

My style can be adapted to the theme and aesthetic of my brief. I pride myself in being able to explore a range of visual language and tell stories through my designs.

INFORMATION: Nomadic After Climate My project draws on nomadic landscapes as primary visual inspiration to create a collection of printed textiles for women’s fashion. Exploring transient movement, space, and memory through storytelling. Utilizing traditional hand printed techniques, embroidery, hanging threads, fragmented surfaces, and unfinished edges to reveal material changes shaped by time and gravity.

BIO: Third year Textile Design student at Winchester School of Art, specialising in knitted textiles. Driven by the interest in technical processes, I explore the intersection of traditional crafts and digital textile processes. My undergraduate studies not only equip me with hands-on experiences with domestic, Dubied knitting machines, digital stimulations and Shima knitting, but also give me opportunity to practice critical thinking and making design decisions. 

I enjoy experimenting with different processes and yarns. With my design, I am detail oriented and inspired by unexpected patterns. In my recent projects, I have been exploring ways to utilise dead-stock materials and yarn wastes.

INFORMATION: The project ‘Fragments of Growth’ explores the lifespan of artificially modified nature through a collection of knitted textiles for fashion. The project originates from everyday observations of controlled and discarded organic matter, including trimmed bushes, overripe food, and cultivated landscapes. In this project, cycles of growth, decay, and regeneration become visually and conceptually intertwined. These forms are translated into tactile surfaces that evoke mutation, erosion, and emergence. Positioned within the conscious high-end fashion context, the project responds critically to the ongoing environmental impact of the textile industry. Despite increasing awareness, material production rarely achieves full sustainability. In response, this work prioritizes the use of deadstock yarns and pre-existing waste materials, embracing their limitations as a generative design constraint.

Presented through physical artifacts, the project communicates a narrative of material afterlife and renewal. Fragments of Growth ultimately proposes a design approach that embraces imperfection and temporality, positioning sustainability not as an ideal state, but as an ongoing process of negotiation and reinvention.

BIO: As a passionate textile design student at the Winchester School of Art, I specialise in print design with a focus on digital techniques.

INFORMATION: Archive of Play explores early 2000’s nostalgia and how reminiscing on childhood can comfort today’s adults. Inspired by toys from this era, this collection celebrates growing up as Gen Z. Through joyful colours and motifs, my range of printed textiles for womenswear encourages reconnecting with playful moments of the past and the objects that shaped childhood memories.

ROWENNA MOSS

CAREER AREA OF INTEREST: Printed Textiles and Wallcoverings with a focus on Interior Design.

BIO: Rowenna gains inspiration for her designs from textures, colours, patterns, and images of items that interest her. This can be from a wide variety of sources, from culture, nature, architecture and Heraldic imagery. Rowenna uses a variety of techniques to reach her final designs that include observational drawings, creating beautifully, visually striking images that explore texture, design, practicality with a strong sustainability ethos.

Rowenna has a particular interest in using experimental techniques to bring added impact into her work, using a combination of traditional crafts and modern up to date techniques to give her designs a distinctive and unique look.  She has looked to prioritise eco-conscious materials and processes throughout her collection, aligning with UN Sustainable Goal No.13 Climate Action to reduce the environmental impact of textile production.

•Currently working in collaboration with Osborne & Little, a British manufacturer and retailer of upmarket wallpaper and fabrics.

•Rowenna received a commendation Award for P4 category - Bradford Textile Society Competition 2025 - Barrier Reef Project, which encompassed sustainability and longevity as part of her process in making and developing.

ELLE ROFE

DISCIPLINE: TEXTILE DESIGN

CAREER AREA OF INTEREST: Considering a Masters degree in Costume Design or Illustration.

BIO:  I am confident in my creative identity and take pride in applying it to my work. My work is illustrative in nature, leaning into my love of both alternative fashion and theatrical costume with an emphasis on exaggerated silhouettes aiming to evoke an appearance of an unidentifiable species, especially in my fashion illustration and visualisations. I also possess an excellent attention to detail, showcased.

One of my key strengths is my attention to detail. I am drawn to delicate but extravagant designs, patterns and silhouettes which would translate well onto stage. I am skilled at illustration and my aforementioned  affinity for detail assists me in visually expressing my ideas, creating intricate, whimsical designs. For this reason, I have a fascination with theatrical costume as one has the freedom to design and create outlandish, garish pieces with the peace of mind that they are only to be worn within the vignette that they are created for, practicality and ergonomics aside. Expanding on this, I have experience in costume making as I used to be part of a carnival troupe as a teenager and so am well versed at designing and creating sculptural, dynamic pieces with a sense of movement.
